Shreveport Rose Society Reorganization

After a successful re-organization meeting of the Shreveport Rose Society in June of 2017, we have continued to grow and are happy to report that we gained 9 new members in February 2018 bringing our total membership to 48.

Meetings are held the second Saturday of each month (except Dec.) at 10:00 a.m. in the Klima Building located on the grounds of the American Rose Center, 8877 Jefferson Paige Road, Shreveport.

Our society held a Christmas Reception on December 3rd in the Klima Rose Hall for Pat Shanley, ARS President who honored our society on its reorganization.  Members and visitors were special guests of Christmas in Roseland. A memorandum of Understanding was signed by Laura Seabaugh, ARS Director, Pat Shanley, ARS President and Lee Shaw, the National Director of the Boy Scouts of America, for scouts to learn and work with members of the American Rose Society to earn their Eagle Scout Badge.

Two members of the society attended the annual Gulf District Mid-Winter Workshop that was held in Lafayette on January 26 & 27th.

February 10 was the date for our regular meeting and "Pruning Party".   We joined the Green Thumb Seminar presented by Dr. Kathryn Fontenot to learn about vegetable gardening.  We separated from that group at break time to have a short business meeting.  Nita Acklen was elected President for 2018.  Many brave members of the rose society and several members of the Master Gardeners ventured into the gardens to prune in the rain.  Special thanks to all that helped.
